The Westfield Garden State Plaza redevelopment project is expected to break ground in late 2024.
Westfield Garden State Plaza owner, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, and its co-developer, Mill Creek Residential just revealed new images, aThe construction of 550 luxury apartments — that will be connected to the mall across a 1-acre town green — is expected to break ground in late 2024 and will open to residents in 2027. There will also be a main street outdoor district featuring restaurants and everyday conveniences and services.
The apartments will be contained in two new buildings that will be built on what is now a parking lot on the west side of the mall. The first redevelopment happened in 1981 when a basement truck tunnel was converted into a second level, adding 150,000-square-feet of shops and a food court. Five years later, Westfield bought the shopping center from Macy’s and another 50 stores were added.
