The recently opened location at 22165 FM 529 in Katy is nearly 150,000 square feet -- about 20,000 square feet larger than the average Target -- and will employ nearly 200 new employees. The larger square footage, tall windows and localized design elements are all part of a new strategy the Minneapolis-based retailer plans to focus on in future stores as well as remodels.
The store's backroom fulfillment space will be five times larger than previous stores of similar size in order to meet the demand for same-day delivery and pickup, according to a spokesperson for the company. In the second quarter of 2022, Target saw 11 percent growth in same-day services driven in large party by buy online pick-up in store orders. Same-day orders accounted for over 10 percent of the retailer's second quarter sales.
