Police in York County were called three times over two days before the high school teacher was fatally shot Saturday by a neighbor who killed himself.
—a local high school teacher—before turning the gun on himself, according to Spring Garden Police Chief George Swartz.
The fatal shooting happened Saturday moments after Walker returned home from the grocery store, Swartz said. Her daughter was still in her car seat in the back of the car when Walker pulled into her driveway at 403 Hill Street. The only dispute between Berry and Walker of which police were aware concerned the shed, and damage to Walker’s phone line, Swartz said. Berry called police on May 19 at 10:25 a.m. to report the disconnection, and that he and Walker talked over the phone to determine responsibility for fixing it.
On Friday May 20, at around 10:30 a.m. Walker called police to discuss the shed and phone line. Police made arrangements for Verizon to re-attach the wire. Two hours later, Berry called police and asked them to send the township’s zoning officer to his property, according to Swartz. Instead, police told Berry he would have to follow up with the zoning office.
Swartz said police are not aware of further issues between the neighbors other than the shed, adding: “We may never know.”
