Jaramillo survived the gunshot wound to his head and is standing trial this week. Defense lawyers aren’t disputing Jaramillo killed Houston. Jaramillo’s lawyers told jurors in opening arguments Tuesday morning they contend he was in a foggy mental state and might not have known the man approaching him was a police officer. Houston wore his police uniform and arrived in a marked patrol car.Houston’s widow, Shelley Houston, testified first.
