It marks the second time within three years that the temple has received a security grant from the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, as it was awarded a similar grant in July 2020.

“Temple Emanu El continues to look at all ways to keep our facility as secure as possible for our congregants, preschool families and staff,” said Renee Higer, the temple’s executive director.

These elements include a new phone system; exterior and interior LED lighting; center door columns for the front, school and social hall exterior doors; locking mechanisms on the sanctuary doors and all classroom double closet doors; and new panic buttons. “ just gave us an opportunity to get some additional items that we determined were necessary,” Higer said. “As we assess what is needed, we will continue to apply for security grants because we just want to make sure people are safe, especially in this anti-Jewish environment we’re dealing with.”

In a news release, temple President Sue Krantz said, “This grant will help our temple community maintain its vibrancy and welcoming spirt by keeping hatred out of our home.
