The Tennessee Senate passed a law Thursday allowing for ivermectin to be sold over the counter in the state.

S.B. 2188 clarifies that the drug must be"suitable for human use" to apply. The law will go into effect after the governor signs it, with"the public welfare requiring it."This law also makes pharmacists who sell ivermectin"immune from disciplinary or adverse administrative action" as long as they're"acting in good faith and with reasonable care.

Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration classified the drug as strictly an anti-parasite drug that remains unapproved as a treatment for COVID-19. The drug gained popularity when podcaster Joe Rogan publicly stated he'd used it to treat his case of coronavirus.
