Defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour returns to Texans practice after month-long absence
Texans defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour was designated to return from the injured reserve on Wednesday, when he practiced for the first time since he was sidelined with an undisclosed injury Oct. 12.
The move kick-starts a 21-day practice window before the Texans must make a decision whether they will activate Dwumfour to the 53-man roster. NFL teams can only activate a maximum of eight players from the injured reserve in a season, and the Texans have already activated nickel safety Tavierre Thomas, defensive end Mario Addison, linebacker Christian Harris and tight end Teagan Quitoriano.
Defensive end Jonathan Greenard, linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis, safety Grayland Arnold and defensive end Derek Rivers also remain on the Texans’ injured reserve. Dwumfour, 24, re-signed with the Texans on a one-year, $825,000 contract after recorded five tackles and a half-sack in 2021. He played in four games this season, totaled 112 defensive snaps and logged a tackle each against the Colts and Broncos. The 6-1, 296-pound Dwumfour can play both inside and outside in Houston’s four-man front. He’s totaled 63 snaps at defensive tackle and 49 at defensive end.
