The Aggies also didn’t have first or second round picks in 2020 under Fisher, but the players at that point were still primarily Sumlin recruits. Fisher, who’s entering his sixth season at A&M, has developed one first round pick to date: offensive lineman Kenyon Green to the Texans a year ago. “He’s a competitor and tough,” Fisher said of Johnson, who’s from East St. Louis, Illinois. “Not many safeties can play the second level, down in the box and physical. But then have the ball skills to play on the top end and in the third level.”
ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay said that Johnson “was a tough one” to evaluate because of his hard-hitting ability combined with needing to improve his coverage skills, and added that Johnson primarily would serve in a special teams role early for the Jaguars.
