COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M signed the nation’s top-rated recruiting class in 2022, and a little more than midway through the season one of coach Jimbo Fisher’s most pressing jobs is recruiting … the class of 2022.
Hence the persistent questions about keeping his current players, especially the underclassmen, in a still-new era of players being allowed to transfer once without an NCAA penalty of sitting out a season. The Aggies will finally play at Kyle Field for the first time since Sept. 17, their longest stretch away from their home in the modern era. A chunk of that absence is on A&M’s past scheduling, considering a 23-21 win over Arkansas in Arlington’s AT&T Stadium on Sept. 24 would have been a home game this year.
The Aggies had eight penalties this past weekend in a 30-24 loss at South Carolina – all false starts thanks in large part to a raucous crowd in Williams-Brice Stadium. In addition, Fisher said sophomore quarterback Haynes King should be ready to go against the Rebels on Saturday. King, already hobbled by a hurt foot entering the South Carolina game, hurt his shoulder in the fourth quarter against the Gamecocks and was replaced by five-star freshman Conner Weigman.
