AUSTIN — Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat seems to have a flair for the dramatic.
The senior built up some suspense Friday with a return announcement, teasing his departure before deploying a twist ending. “I have had so much fun here with all of my teammates, but my year here is now up,” Sweat wrote in a note posted to his Twitter account. “New beginnings are upon me & again I love my Longhorn family. So with that being said I will be declaring for the 2023 Stay at the University of Texas One More Year. #Gotcha.”
Sweat deciding to utilize his extra year of eligibility is a major development for a Texas defense that will need to replace starting nose tackle Keondre Coburn, defensive tackle Moro Ojomo, Buck end Ovie Oghoufo, strongside linebacker DeMarion Overshown, weakside linebacker Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey, cornerback D’Shawn Jamison and safety Anthony Cook in 2023.
