A leukemia survivor and one of the sports world’s best comeback stories, sixth-year...

Texas's Andrew Jones reacts after maiking a three-point basket during the first half of a first round NCAA college basketball tournament game against Virginia Tech Friday, March 18, 2022, in Milwaukee. AUSTIN — At 12:35 p.m. on Feb. 14, Andrew Jones cast out a tweet from his iPhone: “4 years in remission today, All glory to God. #HappyLoveDay.”

It’s more likely Jones’ journey in burnt orange has reached the end of the line. And what a voyage it was for the cancer-whupping 24-year-old who’s been harboring NBA visions practically since he could hold a ball. But Jones roared back to basketball life after successfully completing chemotherapy treatment in September 2019.

Over the next two seasons, Jones appeared in 59 games with 46 starts, averaging 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 3s. He helped Texas win its first Big 12 tournament title in 2020, and he hung a game-high 21 points on Virginia Tech in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, leading the Longhorns to their first March Madness win since 2014.
