Eovaldi also underwent an MRI on the arm, which showed no changes to his elbow ligament. But he also threw a bullpen in Houston earlier in the week and still felt some soreness. The Rangers decided to act cautiously.

“It just didn’t feel as good as I was hoping for,” Eovaldi said. “Where we are in the time of the season and everything like that, we felt like this isn’t something I needed to be trying to grind through. We decided to take some time, whether it’s a week or two, and go from there. We want to be ready for the [stretch run] of the season and the postseason.
