Acura's documentary is about the design and development of their next generation racecar for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
is set to take place this weekend, and all eyes are on the debut of the Acura ARX-06 prototype racecar which was unveiled late last year after a lengthy development. To celebrate the occasion, HPD released a full documentary with an insider's look at the car's progression and all of those involved in the ARX evolution, dating all the way back to 2007's ARX-01 release.
The documentary, released this morning, takes a deep dive into the car's original concept and its goals, as well as HPD's design, development, and testing. The tell-all also includes a detailed look at the styling and aerodynamics, the car's hybrid power unit, the group's highly valued use of virtual reality tech, and it doesn't skimp on the challenges faced, especially since the bulk of the car's development took place during the Covid-19 pandemic.
If you're not completely familiar with the hybrid race platform, the ARX-06 relies on a twin turbo, 2.4-L, 90-degree V-6, which serves as HPD's smallest displacement race engine, and IMSA-specified electric Bosch Motor Generator Unit with Williams Advanced Engineering battery pack.HPD's Electrical Group developed the necessary hardware and software for their prototype to function the way they envisioned.
