The Body Shop, an international retailer of beauty, cosmetics and skincare products, has adopted a radically different way of interviewing and hiring people

Based on the results, the Body Shop plans to expand this interviewing concept to its entire retail chain over the summer. It's estimated that 800 people will get jobs and could increase up to 1,000 during the holiday seasons. While the well-meaning goals of the company are laudable, there are some foreseeable challenges and unintended consequences.
A first-come, first-serve approach to hiring sounds equitable. However, it penalizes the people who may have arrived later in the process, but possess better, more appropriate skills. The first in line might be desperate and appreciate the chance to work at the company, but not have the best experience or the requisite interpersonal skills and disposition for the tasks.
