We’re not talking about Critical Race Theory any more. The conversation appears to be, mostly about parents and values and distrust of the school. This is, as noted above, not new. It’s a scary thing to entrust your child to the care of someone who may or may not share your own values. It cannot help that today’s parents have grown up in an era of bipartisan insistence that public schools are fading.
Having a conversation about parental values and control is a lot harder than bashing back and forth over CRT. Parents are, after all, not the only stakeholders in public education . And some of the values being argued for are not necessarily worth embracing in school or society.
