Motion Twin and Evil Empire's hit roguelike is coming to a TV near you--if you're in France, that is.
Since its Early Access release back in 2017, Motion Twin and Evil Empire’s Dead Cells has become one of the most popular roguelikes of the current gaming generation. The two studios may have recently ended development on the game, but it’ll still live on the form of the animated series, Dead Cells : Immortalis . In the game, players take control of the Prisoner, a one-eyed amorphous blob that can take control of dead bodies as he fights his way off an unnamed island to kill its king.
With true believer Laure Esposito by his side, the Chosen One will die again and again as he goes about taking down each of the king’s lieutenants—known as the Five Fingers, each of whom have punny little names to keep with the theme. Immortalis comes courtesy of French studio Bobbypills, which has previously handled the animated trailers for Dead Cells’ various add-ons over the years. As such, the show can’t help but feel like an extended version of those trailers.
