Instagram is apparently bringing back the chronological feed
Photo: Jamie Grill/Getty Images/Tetra images RF It happened to me. I saw a post from a friend in my Instagram feed showing off a luxurious vacation, and I DM’d them saying I hoped they were having a really great time only for them to respond that the photo was actually posted two weeks ago. Cringe. But no more! , hopefully ensuring I will never have to deal with these social-media embarrassments ever again.
While appearing at the Senate Wednesday, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said the company was working on adding in “a version of a chronological feed” that is expected to launch in 2022. This new version will reportedly require users to update a list of “Favorites” so Instagram can prioritize posts from those accounts and present them chronologically.
So basically, yes, the chronological feed will be back, but you’ll have to jump through a few hoops to make it happen. And the algorithm that currently dictates what shows up on your feed will still be active. Hopefully, it’ll be enough to keep me from missing any big sale announcements or from sending a congratulations card to a former co-worker whose baby announcement post I just saw was actually from months ago.
