“There has always been interest in what is known as heterologous prime boost strategies using vaccines that represent distinct technologies,” says infectious disease expert Amesh A. Adalja, M.D., senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. “Early data has shown that this may be a more beneficial approach when mRNA vaccines follow the Johnson & Johnson or AstraZeneca vaccines.
