Ed Loh and Jonny Lieberman talk the Future of Racing with Beth Paretta
Breaking through barriers at high speed.If you follow motorsports, then chances are you know the name Beth Paretta. She's been breaking boundaries in the racing world for more than a decade since joining what was then Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2001 as the director of marketing and operations for SRT , FCA's high-performance and motorsports arm. While there, she took the Dodge and SRT teams racing and winning.
The only thing more male-dominated than the car industry is car racing and Paretta has held her own with the top of the top power players in both the boardroom and pit lane. She tells us a fantastic story of how she got hired at FCA after an interview with the big man, Sergio Marchionne.
As she tells us, Penske has always been in her corner, even when she's gone out of her way to break down walls. In 2015, Paretta started, whose side hustle was promoting STEM education for girls. That lead to Paretta fielding the first all-female team at the Indy 500, with driver Katherine Legge. Her most recent racing endeavor is Paretta Autosport, a Chevrolet-powered IndyCar team with Swiss driver Simona De Silvestro. We chatted with her just before the last race of the 2022 season, the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. In our conversation, we go through how Paretta went from a film and broadcasting degree into the car industry, what she drove as her first car and why Lime Rock is her favorite track. By the end, we're talking EVs and the future of racing.
