EXCLUSIVE: TheLastofUs Part 2 voice actor Patrick Fugit is eager to join the cast of the HBO show adaptation, but isn't interested in revisiting his game character:

With a cast of fresh and familiar faces, Patrick Fugit says he's eager to join HBO's The Last of Us, though not as his Last of Us Part II character. Fugit starred in the 2020 Naughty Dog sequel game as Owen, a member of the Washington Liberation Front and the ex-boyfriend to Abby, Ellie's antagonist and the daughter of the Firefly surgeon Joel killed at the end of the original game.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant at Love & Death's SXSW premiere, Patrick Fugit shared some insight on potentially joining HBO's The Last of Us cast. The Last of Us Part II star confirmed he would love to star in the show's season 2, though admits he wouldn't like to reprise his game character.

Neil Druckmann is somebody I keep in touch with. I love that guy, and I would do any type of creative adventure with him that he came up with. I'm obviously twice as old as Owen; I'm 40, and I think Owen's 20 in the second part of the second game. So, I'm not playing Owen, nor do I want to. I did that already. Maybe I'll play one of those Wolf characters, or one of the cultists. I've already got the beard; I'll just shave my head, and I'm good to go.

While the original Joel actor played a character who already existed in the game, Johnson appeared in The Last of Us season 1 as Anna, Ellie's mom whose story was originally planned for a separate piece of DLC cut that fell through. Additionally, original Tommy actor Jeffrey Pierce played the completely new character of Perry, the right-hand man to Melanie Lynskey's Kathleen, for episodes 4 and 5.

At this point, not much is known about what's to come from The Last of Us season 2, with Mazin and Druckmann aiming to remain faithful to Last of Us Part II while offering just enough changes to keep audiences on their toes. However, with the latter, also the creator of the games, recently hyping Abby's arrival, and the former indicating it could be split across multiple seasons, it seems clear those who fell in love with season 1 have more exciting things to come.
