From broken leases to last-minute flights, chasing the dream of making it in the NFL comes with a price.

The Texans signed Owens to their practice squad a month later. He spent the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons on their practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster and waived a few times before he finally made their 53-man roster this season. Through four games, he leads the team with 42 tackles. “You got to be hungry,” said Arnold, who went undrafted out of Baylor. “You can’t be complacent. You can’t be cool. You can’t be, ‘Oh man, I’m on practice squad; I’m good.’
“I enjoy that because it’s a blue-collar workman’s mentality,” Ross said. “Those guys have to earn it and show it every single day. Guys like Grayland Arnold have to earn it every single day, and whatever their role might be, they have to find ways to improve.”
