The new $50 omakase experience at Post Houston food hall could be the city's best dining deal.
, the new 12-seat sushi counter at East Side King is set to disrupt the status quo with its affordably priced, 14-course, no frills chefs’s tasting for the the jaw-droppingly affordable price of $49. There’s just one small catch: It’s first come, first serve, and it’s not designed for people to linger. On busy days, diners will be subject to a 45-minute time limit.
“Our intention was always to put a cheap omakase sushi counter close to the fish market,” said Qui. “What inspired me was going to Tsukiji [Tokyo’s famous fish market, which has moved to a new location and is now called Toyosu] and being able to eat at sushi bars close by. There’s no pretense to it. It’s cheaper than going to [Sukabayshi] Jiro’s or the Michelin starred spots, and it’s fast.”
“It’s been a great experience. I love it that the sushi chef is just making each piece for the row, and he’s just coming down the counter and handing it off,” said Amy Maddie. She and husband, Lane, drove in from Baytown after hearing about the omakase on Instagram.
