I started collecting American Girl dolls when I was 7 years old, and for six years of my life, I was infatuated with them. I read all the books and watched all the movies, and every Christmas, I begged my parents to buy me that year’s Girl of the Year. Still, as the daughter of first-generation immigrants from China, I never truly saw myself in any of these contemporary dolls or their stories. None of them had my black hair and almond-shaped eyes.

, including her hairstyle, skin tone, and eyes. As a Chinese-American girl, I deeply identify with her, and I could not be more excited to finally be properly represented.
