ProsConsWhat’s new? The BMW X1 is the entry-level SUV in the BMW XE:BMW lineup, and it’s all-new for 2023 with a new engine, new tech, and standard all-wheel drive. Pricing starts at $38,600.
The pricing of the X1 is similar to the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. A couple of more affordable options in this class include the Lexus UX and Volvo VLVLY XC40.Driving the 2023 BMW X1 We haven’t driven the all-new 2023 BMW X1 as of this writing. We’ll update this part of the review as soon as we do. We expect it to be an improvement over the outgoing model, which was a fun SUV to drive with quick acceleration and agile handling.
Exterior styling The all-new BMW X1 looks bolder and more modern than its predecessor, but we wouldn’t call it radically different. That’s not a bad thing — its boxy shape is a big reason it’s so roomy. The new X1 continues with traditional design cues like the BMW kidney grille while looking thoroughly modern.
Standard features The BMW X1 is well-equipped at the base level. There’s technically only one trim of the X1 — the xDrive28i. Every 2023 X1 in the U.S. has the same powertrain. It’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission directing power to all four wheels.
