Texas Rent Relief program reopens today: See how to apply, deadlines, and more

A statewide program aimed at providing rental assistance for Texans affected by the pandemic has reopened.Texas rent relief program: How Houstonians can applyprogram, administered by Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, reportedly has $96 million available in funds to help provide rental assistance.
The department originally launched Texas Rent Relief in 2021 and officials claim to have assisted more than 300,000 households statewide. According to , Harris County leads the way with the most households assisted by the program with over $530,000,000 in relief provided.Applications will be processed in the order received, prioritizing those facing evictions.Applicants can review their eligibility details and required documents on the website.First-time applicants may be eligible for up to 18 months of rent and utility bill assistance.
At least one member of the household must either qualify for unemployment benefits or have experienced a reduction in income or financial hardship because of the pandemic. They must also attest that they are at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability if they don't receive rental assistance.Applicants can also submit application over the phone by calling the Texas Rent Relief call center at 833-989-7368.
