New set photos from Wicked reveal Cynthia Erivo and her stunt double in character as Elphaba, taking flight on a broomstick. The highly anticipated two-part film adaptation was first announced in 2016, with Crazy Rich Asians' John M. Chu later attached to direct following his In The Heights adaptation. In November 2021, Erivo was cast as the lead Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, alongside co-lead Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Notably, the images also reveal that filming is well into the second act, which will comprise its own follow-up film, Wicked: Part 2. Elphaba does not take flight until the very end of Act 1 and continues to do so throughout Act 2 of the venerable musical.
