Heard on the Street: New graduates today might want to reconsider a career in the plastics industry

China has a bad reputation when it comes to the environment, but things are starting to change. That is great news for the planet. It is bad news, though, for suppliers of plastics and other goods that end up as waste in its landfills or haze in its skies.

The most recent evidence: China announced in late January that it will ban nonbiodegradable plastic bags in most stores and for takeout food in major cities by the end of 2020. These restrictions, and new limits on other single-use plastic items, will gradually be expanded...
