In October, Schmid joined Rec Room as head of business development, a position that pays about half what he was making before. What that startup does offer, though, is remote work flexibility.
Schmid noted that Apple emphasizes in-person unstructured relationship-building time for workers, and also tries to avoid special treatment for specific staff. "Apple made it clear that my job was in Cupertino, and I didn't have any issues with that, so I said I'll figure that out," Schmid said.
