The Mid-Century Modern, five-bedroom abode has been in the family of the late Pat Legan since it was built in 1953. The San Antonio attorney and St. Mary’s University law professor served as CEO of what was then known as Ray Ellison Homebuilders, which constructed more than 50,000 houses locally from 1958 until Legan’s 1971 retirement.
The house was built to let in lots of light, as evidenced by a windowed, 12-foot-high atrium. A skylight over a private courtyard with a fountain brings even more illumination into the master bath and spa tub. The huge kitchen features a seating area with a restaurant-style banquet. Besides the South Pacific-inspired motif of the backyard, the $1.7 million structure also has a full outdoor kitchen, a covered entertainment area with numerous ceiling fans and a tennis court.
