TikTok and parent company ByteDance have been sued by content moderators who say they suffered 'psychological trauma' from looking at 'disgusting' uploaded videos
"Many uploads include graphic and objectionable content including child sexual abuse, rape, torture, bestiality, beheadings, suicide, and murder," the lawsuit stated. A representative of TikTok did not respond to an email seeking comment.
During the course of their work, which included mandatory 12-hour days, both claim to have seen"many acts of extreme violence." Young saw a 13-year-old child murdered and videos of bestiality. Velez similarly saw violence against children, bestiality, along with videos of necrophilia.
"To the contrary, defendants impose productivity standards and quotas on their content moderators that are irreconcilable with applicable standards of care," the lawsuit alleged.
