Sen. Tim Scott, South Carolina Republican, criticized President Biden during the second Republican presidential debate Wednesday night, saying the president shouldn’t be on the picket line in Detroit with striking autoworkers, but should visit the southern border instead.
“I’ll say this: Joe Biden should not be on the picket line,” Mr. Scott said. “He should be on the southern border, working to close our southern border.”Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney, one of the moderators for the debate held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, asked the senator if he would fire the striking autoworkers after he publicly praised the late President Regan for firing air traffic controllers in the 1980s.
Mr. Scott replied that presidents don’t have the authority to fire workers in the private sector. He slammed the Biden administration for promising $86 billion to shore up underfunded union pensions.
