Peter Seidler's celebration of life draws 2,000 people to Petco Park, with fans celebrating chairman's commitment to the San Diego community

They came wearing jerseys of current Padres players, like hitters Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Ha-Seong Kim, Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth and pitchers Joe Musgrove and Yu Darvish. They came wearing jerseys of former Padres greats like Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Garry Templeton and Rollie Fingers. And sprinkled among the crowd were jerseys honoring a man who never took a swing and never threw a pitch. Peter Seidler. Who wears a jersey honoring the owner of a team? Padres fans do.

“So whether we win a championship, or take care of homelessness or whatever it is, that we just keep that in our minds, that we need to carry it forward.” Ed Wong is a Padres fan who has lived in San Diego for more than 50 years. Wong has lived downtown the past two decades, so he has seen issues with homelessness first-hand. “He was special because he was doing more than just helping bring a good team here and uniting it,” Wong said.
