Tom Sandoval, the namesake of Scandoval, lost the plot of his comeback interview long before podcast host Howie Mandel took a razor to Sandoval’s face.
—his costar, girlfriend of nearly a decade, and Leviss’s close friend—must know that he won’t come off well in the show’s upcoming reunion special. So he decided to talk to Mandel, perhaps hoping that laying out his side of the story could put him on the path to redemption. On paper, the choice makes sense. Because Mandel knew nothing aboutbefore the interview, he wouldn’t be able to ask Sandoval any truly probing questions.
But the qualities that make Sandoval reality TV gold are precisely what make him such a terrible podcast guest: his rejection of accountability, his inability to keep his mouth shut for longer than a few seconds. When first asked about what led to his infidelity, for instance, Sandoval blames his now ex-girlfriend: “I love Ariana. I still love Ariana, and I care about her. But we, for a while, have and had been sort of having our own lives,” he explains.
