Newly minted Discover Saskatoon will work to promote and develop Indigenous tourism experiences as part of encouraging the world to visit.
Representatives from Tourism Saskatoon and the Saskatoon Tribal Council gathered Wednesday at the Remai Modern art gallery to sign a partnership agreement. Tourism CEO Steph Clovechok also took the opportunity to announce her organization is rebranding itself as Discover Saskatoon
“Connection, kinship and mutual benefits are at the heart of our new brand; they are the outcomes of a flourishing community and visitor economy. We are incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to build these relationships,” she added. The agreement with the Tribal Council commits Discover Saskatoon to “living in the spirit and intent of the Treaty, and honouring both the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples,” according to the release.
“Tourism is a good opportunity for reconciliation. We take this journey together to establish and ensure that Indigenous Tourism is now a priority for Saskatoon, and we look forward to the future,” he added.
