A tractor trailer became wedged underneath a bridge on Monday afternoon.A tractor trailer got stuck under a train bridge on Monday afternoon, shutting down the roadway and causing detours for two hours, South Brunswick Police Deputy Chief James Ryan said.

The tractor trailer was traveling on Deans Lane in South Brunswick just before 4 p.m. when it became wedged underneath the overpass, Ryan said. The driver failed to observe height restriction signage several times leading up to the crash, police said. Authorities did not name the driver or say whether any motor vehicle violations were issued.

Firefighters and a towing company worked for about 30 minutes to secure the tractor and safely remove the driver, who was uninjured. The overpass carries trains from Amtrak and NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor Line. Trains were traveling at reduced speeds while Amtrak officials were on the scene examining the bridge.
