Fresh developments in the investigation into the accidental shooting death of Ohio corrections officer, Lt. Rodney Osborne.
COLUMBUS, Ohio —After weeks of waiting, ABC 6 has finally gotten a copy of the autopsy report for Lt. Osborne. He was shot and killed on April 9 during a training accident at the corrections facility in Orient.
For weeks ABC 6 has demanded answers from state investigators, but they have not released many details -- but now the autopsy report provides new and vital information.The report breaks down several important points:Osborne was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time, but the the bullet hit him just above the vest line.The coroner’s office has ruled his manner of death as a homicide., Candus Mitchell. She and her family are devastated by the loss.
Rest easy bub -- know that we're gonna try to get justice for you. I love you bub, I'm not ever gonna forget you, that's for sure," said Mitchell.The commander in charge of that training was placed on administrative leave. A state employee is also under investigation for reckless homicide in the case.
ABC 6 has also learned this incident happened during a "demonstration portion" of training at the gun range. We have reached out to the Highway Patrol and the state Department of Corrections to get the latest details on the investigation, including any details on potential charges.
