Travis Scott announced a series of long-term initiatives that include addressing safety at large live events, mental health resources for young people of color and scholarships for Black students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
"This will be a lifelong journey for me and my family," he wrote., will fund the U.S. Conference of Mayors Task Force on Event Safety and a"tech-driven device currently in development." It will advocate, through research, for a new safety and security blueprint for all festivals and large-scale events.
"While it’s easy for corporations and institutions to stay in the shadows, I feel as a leader in my community, I need to step up in times of need," Scott wrote."I will always honor the victims of the Astroworld tragedy, who remain in my heart forever. Travis Scott onstage at the Astroworld Festival in November that claimed multiple lives and injured others.The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund, announced Tuesday evening, is a $1 million allocation for students at HBCUs that will grant $10,000 to seniors with a 3.5 or higher GPA who are"facing the last-minute challenge of financial adversity in their second semester senior year." The scholarship is named for Scott's grandfather. Applications are open at.
Project HEAL will also offer mental health services to young people in lower-income communities of color through another seven-figure pledge that includes digital counseling and telephone hotlines. It will also provide free programs with licensed professional counselors and social workers, led by Dr. Janice Beal, a Houston-based behavioral health expert.
