Trinidad police officers shot and killed a man after responding to a warrants call early Sunday morning. Another man was also shot and injured, but it’s unclear who fired at him.
Officers arrived at about midnight to the 1400 block of San Juan Street and reported hearing voices from a trailer that was in the driveway of the property, according to Trinidad police. When officers knocked, a woman answered and said she was the only one in the trailer and then she became uncooperative with the officers, so they took her into custody, the press release stated. After being pressed by police, she admitted another person was also in the trailer with her.
The responding officers then, through a window, saw a man moving inside the trailer, so one of the officers opened the door and demanded that the man come out, according to the release. Instead, they heard gunshots, so they took cover, and officers shot at the man as he allegedly ran from the trailer to the house. When he didn’t respond to multiple commands from police to stop, show his hands and drop the gun, officers fired more shots at him, striking him, according to Trinidad police.
