Asked by a reporter whether his top aide would remain in the White House, the president responded: “Yeah, yeah. That was a false report.”

published earlier Friday by CNN, which reported that while close aides convinced Trump not to oust Mulvaney amid the contentious Senate impeachment proceedings, the professional future of the West Wing's most senior staffer was now in question.

Among those most mentioned as a possible replacement for Mulvaney is Rep. Mark Meadows , a fierce defender of the president on Capitol Hill wholast month that he would not seek reelection and would instead serve Trump in some capacity. But Trump on Friday indicated he would not swap Mulvaney for Meadows anytime soon, telling reporters: "I have a great relationship with Mick. I have a great relationship with Mark. And it's false."
