Bill Moore and his wife were headed to Palm Springs from Canada to decide if they wanted to retire in the desert warmth. Connie Holmerud was flying south from Washington state for a 40th birthday party. Andrew Caldwell was making the short trip from Los Angeles to celebrate a birthday, as well.

Others told a similar tale. Holmerud said her group will lose about $1,900 because they will decline TurnKey's offer of a credit. She said that decision was made because the home they initially booked is now several hundred dollars more expensive for later dates. One problem for travelers such as Holmerud is that they might have no idea they are booking through multiple platforms. When they try to sort out a cancellation or refund, travel companies often point the finger at other companies in the sales chain, making it a herculean task to receive money back.that had 114 members as of Wednesday afternoon. Their back-of-the-envelope math estimated that those in the Facebook group combined were going to lose out on more than $130,000.

"I started this group as I found how many people there were that TurnKey was affecting," she told The Desert Sun.
