Twitter's Community Notes function is being praised after providing context to a viral video showing a transgender woman being restrained and struck by police.

Rula Jebreal, who identifies herself on Twitter as a visiting professor at the University of Miami, shared a video Wednesday showing Italian authorities detaining and striking an individual in Milan.Sirens blare in the footage while police can be seen kicking and striking the individual with batons. Many on the Left condemned the action as a transphobic attack.

Twitter's Community Notes function quickly added context to the video, which has amassed nearly 14 million views. "This incident took place in Milan, Italy on May 24," Community Notes shared on the post."The transgender individual being subdued by police had been reported after exposing his penis to school children and threatening to infect people with HIV. He then violently attempted to evade arrest.""Community Notes aim to create a better informed world by empowering people on Twitter to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading Tweets," according to Twitter.

I I watched this and was saddened and was about to comment on the egregious injustice that this trans woman had faced. Then, I read the community notes. And now, I don’t feel bad for them at all."Thank god — I mean, Elon — FOR COMMUNITY NOTES," said another user."Why would you mislead the public in such a disgraceful manner?" another user tweeted at Jebreal.
