Two adults hiking off-trail at SF's Fort Funston rescued

'These two individuals are fortunate that this rescue ended with no injuries.'

Captain Jonathan Baxter, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department, said the two individuals were walking in the area around the hang-gliding pad and had reached a point where they would have fallen up to 70 feet if they had continued. They had hiked off the main trail to a point between the top of the bluffs and the beach, Baxter said.

They called for help, and firefighters arrived on the scene at about 5:30 p.m., deploying a rescue technician with a rope. "These two individuals are fortunate that this rescue ended with no injuries. That’s not always the case," Baxter told SFGATE on the phone."This is a reminder to not go off the trails."
