The cubs, one male and one female, arrived at the Philadelphia Zoo this summer from Washington.
Two orphaned puma cubs arrived at the Philadelphia Zoo in July 2023 from Washington. Elbroch, left, and Olympia, right, are siblings. They are expected to remain in the zoo hospital under quarantine until early fall. Elbroch and Olympia are settling in to their new home in Pennsylvania.
“We are so thankful to our keeper and veterinary teams who have stepped up to give these cubs the best care possible, and we can’t wait for the public to meet them and learn their story.”, a conservation organization devoted to the protection of the world’s 40 species of wild cats.”The zoo said they tell the cubs apart by their size - Elbroch is bigger than his sister - he also is “confident” and “not afraid to explore.
They are being fed a customized diet and receiving physical examinations that include blood work, cardiac and abdominal ultrasounds and vaccines. According to the zoo, puma, also called cougars, mountain lions and panthers, are found across North and South America.
