University of Arizona students and faculty signed an open letter after a verbal altercation between administrator Maribel Alvarez and Kai Harriott.

An investigation into the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the dean of students.A meeting between student groups and the school’s administration.

He also said the university would support any student, faculty or staff member who contacted law enforcement when they believe their safety is in jeopardy. The Cultural and Resource Centers currently within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion would move under the purview of the dean of students' office, each with its own staff and dedicated counselors, according to the letter.

Student advocacy groups named in the open letter said no one from the university tried to speak to Harriott or others involved in the incident. "It's hard to not make a correlation," said Carol Brochin, faculty member and member of the United Campus Workers of Arizona union. Brochin and others also have criticized the presence of the police officers in the MLK building where there are Black student groups.
