UConn's Jordan Hawkins sticks up for cousin, fellow national champion Angel Reese of LSU

"We're going to have a big cookout for the whole family when I get home, that's all I know," Hawkins said on the NRG Stadium court after UConn beat San Diego State 76-59 Monday night at NRG Stadium.

The 20-year-old Reese grew up in Baltimore where she played at Saint Frances Academy. As one of the top recruits in the country, she signed with Maryland and played there for two seasons before transferring to LSU. Hawkins, who is also 20, played at renowned DeMatha Catholic High School about 35 miles south of Reese, before signing with UConn in 2021.Hawkins was named to the Final Four's all-tournament team

after scoring 16 points against San Diego State and 13 in the win over Miami on Saturday. Reese was the women's Final Four's Most Outstanding Player, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the title game win over Iowa. Of course, Reese also was the center of controversy for taunting Iowa star Caitlin Clark as time expired.
