Tritons lose final game at Cal Poly after scoreboard shows wrong score with 20 seconds left
That’s what the scoreboard inside Mott Athletics Center said Saturday night with 20 seconds left, after a Cal Poly turnover followed by an UCSD layup. And that’s what will be burned into the memories of Tritons players after an agonizing, abrupt end to a season they hoped would last longer.
Cal Poly’s Camren Pierce made both free throws with 19 seconds left. The Tritons missed a contested 3, fouled again and lost 80-76. Generally, only teams with .500 records or better are invited. But the CBI has made exceptions in the past and hinted that the Tritons would be a strong candidate if they won their final three games to get to 14-15.
Killingsworth is out of eligibility. Three other seniors could claim a COVID waiver and return for another season but, Olen said, likely won’t: Swiss forward Toni Rocak, their leading scorer and rebounder who was named Big West all-conference honorable mention; Australian forward Matt Gray ; and guard Kaden Rasheed .
