Houston ranked No. 1 to close regular season, tightens hold on top spot in Associated Press poll
For the third time in program history, UH is ranked No. 1 in the nation to end the regular season. So far, that's been a good postseason omen for the Cougars.For just the third time in program history, the University of Houston is No. 1 to end the regular season.
The Cougars strengthened their grip on the top spot in the Associated Press men’s basketball poll Monday, receiving 58 of 61 first-place votes from a panel of media. UCLA moved up to No. 2. Kansas and Alabama, last week's Nos. 2 and 3 teams who lost over the weekend, were third and fourth, respectively, as conference tournaments continue this week.UH also ended the regular season No. 1 in 1967-68 and 1982-83. Both times the Cougars advanced to the Final Four.
