University Hospitals has announced a $12.5 million CDC grant to research the effectiveness of vaccines for flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses.CLEVELAND, Ohio — University Hospitals has received a $12.5 million grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to research the effectiveness of vaccines for flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses.

UH can potentially receive another $8 million for the five-year cooperative agreement, the hospital system said. Flu vaccine effectiveness network sites, such as UH, provide information that helps the CDC understand how well flu vaccines work in real-world settings, and how their effectiveness is changed by personal characteristics, the specific vaccine, or virus type, UH said.
