The timeline in The Umbrella Academy has branched out a lot thanks to the Hargreeves’ jumps through time, and season 3 secretly hinted at a major unseen timeline that risks creating a plot hole. After season 2 ended on a cliffhanger with the reveal of the Umbrella Academy landing on a timeline where their team doesn’t exist, season 3 saw them trying to work together with the team that took their place, the Sparrow Academy, to stop another apocalypse.

Diego wearing an eye patch is a reference to the Umbrella Academy comics, where Diego lost his right eye and when he’s not wearing his mask , he wears a patch. However, the book details events from that timeline, but the Hargreeves weren't even born in it thanks to Harlan, and of course, Diego hasn’t lost his eye and Five hasn’t been in the military, yet that’s how they appear in the book.
