United Airlines flight headed for Chicago diverts to Houston for medical emergency
Elizabeth Conley/Staff photographerA United Airlines flight bound for Chicago made an unplanned stop in Houston Saturday night after someone on board suffered a medical emergency.
The flight took off at 2:53 p.m. from Guatemala City Saturday and was scheduled to arrive in Chicago just before 7 p.m. A medical emergency on board, however, forced the plane to be diverted mid-flight to George Bush Intercontinental Airport, according to a statement by United.At 5:39 p.m., the plane landed safely at IAH and the medical situation was addressed, the airline's statement said.
At 8 p.m., the flight departed IAH and landed at its original destination at 10:47 p.m., just under four hours after its scheduled arrival time.
